I thought last week’s Across the Universe column would be my last, but by happy accident (or not so happy accident if you ask the Monitor staff), I have one last chance to share my observations on life in a foreign country. In order to get some ideas for the topic of this column, I read some of my previous Across the Universe submissions. And I got bored. Quick. So, instead of trying to make some sort of profound observation and my place in it, I’m going to have some fun with this last column while providing a little bit of insight about Britain and Europe at the same time. Last week police here in the United Kingdom reported details of an attempted terrorist attack.  Scottish authorities intercepted a number of crude mail bombs capable of maiming or killing if properly detonated.  The intended recipients of the bombs were high-profile targets, including a Scottish Premier League football manager – or, as Americans might prefer to call him, soccer coach – and a former member of Scottish Parliament.  Police believe religion was a motivating factor behind the attempt.  Care to guess to what religion police believe the attacker or attackers belong?

Life has been good.

There are moments in life when the only things left to do are step back and look at yourself. A lot of the time I associate this with struggling and fighting to stay in control.

The only thing left to do is let go of your troubles, take a deep breath and then look at yourself, where you are and what options you have left to choose. Moments like this come and go with every year, and growth normally follows in the footsteps of reflection.
