Kristi Knecht, former instructor in the department of music, passed away Sept. 12.  She suffered brain trauma after a fall while cycling with her husband on Labor Day.

Student Affairs announces Homecoming changes

Student Affairs and the Homecoming Committee announced on Monday that Homecoming will be reorganized for fall 2011. According to this new structure, Independents will form their own team, competing against the first-year team and Greek pairings.

Proposed changes to Homecoming Week began after Homecoming 2010 evaluations. According to Sara Bailey, director of student activities, several students were unhappy with the former system. Greeks objected to the overwhelming number of required activities, and Independents took issue with being excluded or ignored during the week.

Class of 2011 prepares to take final Walk Around the Quad

The time is near once again for another class of Cardinals to don caps and gowns and receive their diplomas. The members of the class of 2011 will be plenty busy juggling family, friends and the many events planned for May 13 and 14.

According to Karen Weatherford, assistant to the Registrar, the class of 2011 has 252 members. Of the 252 graduates, approximately 205 of them will be participating in Commencement.

Events start the day of graduation at 9 a.m. with the Baccalaureate Service. According to the schedule mailed to the seniors and their families, the service will be held in Gano and last for one hour.

Graduating seniors who wish to participate in the processional to the Baccalaureate are asked to meet in the Yates-Gill Union atrium at 8:30 a.m. in their freshly-pressed robes.

Women's tennis wins regional conference

The William Jewell College women’s tennis team won the Heart of America Athletic Conference last weekend in Springfield, Mo. The women defeated Graceland University 5-1 in the semifinals and went on to defeat Lindenwood University 5-1 in the championship.
